The dream of a young boy from a farming family in Modesto, California was to make the greatest ever space adventure. He almost died in a car crash but fate landed him in the Univ of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts where he attracted the mentorship of Francis Ford Coppola and a best friend in a young Steven Spielberg
He and his partner first wrote a 12 page storyline which didn’t get a look in by any of the big studios. 20th Century Fox finally gave it a nod.
And then, his first draft got trashed by Coppola! Eventually, it took 4 drafts & 5 years of toil for it to finally get accepted & production to start in 1976
The rest, as they say is history!
